Banpo District Park - Design Competition
Seoul, South Korea
Fountain Source was invited to participate in developing a conceptual water display for the Hangang Park, Banpo District Park and Fountain Establishment Project for the City of Seoul, South Korea. The competition called for transforming the existing bridge that crosses the Han River and links the Hangang and Banpo parks.
Our approach was to transform the bridge into an iconic landmark that set a new precedence for water design while keeping within distinct design criteria that included keeping the bridge open to vehicular traffic and mitigating the environmental effects of wind and temperature.
The design we developed, we believe, produced the largest water display yet envisioned. The design utilized 792 meters (2,600 feet) of the bridge and would be capable of pumping 590 m3/min (156,000 gpm) of water continuously. The design is comprised of four separate displays that would be capable of operating under various integrated sequences or individually, giving the design a myriad of active, semi-active and passive displays.
